Peavey VTM 60 | Full Rebuild Part 1
Okay, we are back at the Peavey Amps!! Bringing this VTM 60 back to stellar, stock, condition has been on my list for AWHILE now. Very stoked to have this thing running. This first video covers full evaluation of the power board where the filter capacitors live. This VTM60 showed up on my doorstep with a few modifications done, including a choke replacing resistor R5 (400 ohm, 10W) with a choke, which is basically a large inductor.
Basically, someone just pulled that resistor and connected at the J8 and J9 terminals a Hammond 5H @ 120mADC choke (part number 194F):
Another mod that was put in place was an adjustable bias circuit. Resistor R8 (47K ohm) was replaced with a 50K linear potentiometer and a 10K resistor in series with one of the legs that is going to the left hand side of the board.
Both the choke, and bias mod are staying in this amp, but all other parts of the circuit are going back to stock values! In this video we also covered replacing all filter caps (C1, C2, C3, C4, C6, C7, C8... wait, where the heck is C5??? oh there it is). We also check the 220K 1W resistors and all other small components on the board.
Next up? We will replace all other electrolytic capacitors in the amp, on the main and preamp PCBs, and address any other issues that are present to bring the amp back up to stock operating conditions.
